Danny and Jan are my first proper pre-wedding couple here in Kuala Lumpur! I say proper, because as things are usually done in Asia, they were planning to be wearing their wedding outfits and make some couple images in two different locations, before their wedding would take place. Me, I had never photographed such pre-wedding, my previous engagement sessions were casual, in casual wear.
After a few exchanges by email, I met them both for a chat just around christmas time in KL. It is safe to say that we connected straight away with our ideas and our visions of how we want images to turn out. They were after genuine, natural emotions in their photos but also including backdrops that were dear to them in different ways. They chose FRIM for its stunning nature and the fact that Danny, originally from Malaysia, has a mission to take Jan, from Singapore, into the jungle at any opportunity given!
They also both felt that they wanted to capture something old into their images, something with soul. They had first settled for the train station but, as we were shooting on a Sunday, we didn’t get the chance to get permission to shoot there. We then headed towards Merdeka Square and decided to have a wander and stop where the light and place would look good to us. We did find some beautiful light and architecture to help us with our quest for traveling a bit back in time.
As you will see, both Danny and Jan wowed me with their beautiful outfits and class. I loved, loved the lace and the light, thank you Jan for thinking of your photographer when purchasing your gowns! (wink). I must also say that it was an absolute pleasure to work with them both, they were trusting and open minded and keen and interested to participate into the making of the images. What you see is an efficient team “work” from beginnign to end and I loved it all.
The day of Danny and Jan’s shoot early February, I found out a dear friend of mine had passed away and my emotional state was, well, quite in a state. This couple, by their love for each other, their easiness on the day, their kindness but also their ideas and whole demeanour gave me so much inspiration and strength. I owe them a massive ray of sunshine.
I can’t thank you enough for this.
